On April 15, 2024, the Industrial Sci-Tech Innovation Promotion Conference of Suzhou High-tech Zone was held to fully implement the work arrangements of the Suzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. The conference aimed to mobilize the whole district to prioritize enterprises as the main body, market demand as the orientation, and industrial development as the focus, comprehensively upgrade industrial scientific and technological innovation capabilities, and build the zone into a core hub for industrial sci-tech innovation in Suzhou.
Mao Wei, Secretary of the District Party Working Committee; Song Changbao, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Working Committee and Director of the District Administrative Committee; Gao Xiaodong, Director of the District Standing Committee of the People’s Congress; Zhu Xihong, Chairman of the District Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, together with other district leaders and principals of relevant government departments, functional zones and state-owned enterprises, attended the event. Representatives from innovative enterprises, top universities and research institutions, sci-tech talents and financial institutions were also present. Dr. Zheng Yanchang from Suzhou Kangqi Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. was invited to attend the conference as an outstanding leading talent.
Taihu Innovation Institute was officially inaugurated at the meeting. Adhering to the educational philosophy of “enabling scientists to understand industries, empowering entrepreneurs with technological insights, and accelerating the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements”, the institute will deepen cooperation with first-class universities including Nanjing University to build a professional, market-oriented and internationally influential sci-tech innovation incubation base.
The provincial-level innovative industrial cluster for high-end measurement and control instruments and equipment was unveiled. Meanwhile, five provincial and municipal key innovation platforms were officially accredited, and the official list of outstanding sci-tech enterprises, institutions, research platforms and individuals of Suzhou High-tech Zone for 2023 was released.
The implementation plan for the “Ten Major Initiatives” of the three-year action plan (2024–2026) for sci-tech innovation-driven development in Suzhou High-tech Zone was officially launched. Focusing on industrial technological breakthroughs and other key initiatives, the plan aims to further deepen the integrated development of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation. In addition, the “Golden Cradle” sci-tech finance brand was unveiled, delivering precise financial support to fuel technological innovation and industrial upgrading.
The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute introduced its achievement transformation model. Leaders of the Taihu Science City functional zone, innovation consortia and key innovative enterprises delivered speeches focusing on collaborative innovation, consolidating enterprises’ dominant role in innovation, and accelerating breakthroughs in core and key technologies.
Mao Wei emphasized that enterprises, research platforms and high-end talents are the core driving forces of industrial sci-tech innovation. He encouraged local enterprises to further consolidate their principal role in innovation, increase R&D investment, and achieve full coverage of R&D institutions among all industrial enterprises above designated size within two years. He stressed fostering a sound ecosystem of coordinated and linked development leading by leading enterprises and sci-tech flagship enterprises, and encouraging enterprises to anchor core functions including headquarters, R&D, production and settlement in Suzhou High-tech Zone.
He also urged research institutions to advance market-oriented operation mechanisms and accelerate the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements. High-end talents are expected to give full play to their innovative strengths, make breakthroughs in core technologies, and lead industrial upgrading.
To further advance industrial sci-tech innovation, the government will continuously optimize service guarantees to support enterprise growth, improve urban quality, and upgrade industrial and public service supporting facilities, striving to build the zone into a paradise for entrepreneurs and innovators.
